Crochet Gauge
Crochet gauge is the number of stitches and rows per inch achieved when crocheting with a particular hook size and yarn. By following the recommended gauge, you can ensure that your finished hat will have the correct size and fit. Gauge is very important for this easy crochet baby hat pattern.
15 dc= 4″ and 10 rows= 4″
Crochet the first five rounds of the the 0-3 Months size hat and then measure your swatch across the middle. If your swatch is equal to 4.5″, your gauge is the same as mine.
If your swatch is larger than 4.5 inches, your gauge is looser than mine and you should try using a smaller crochet hook.
If your swatch is smaller than 4.5 inches, your gauge is tighter than mine and you should try using a larger crochet hook.

Pattern Notes
- This free crochet pattern starts with a magic circle (also known as a magic ring or adjustable ring). If you are a beginner crocheter, check out my magic circle tutorial.
- Leave a long tail for weaving in when you make your magic circle.
- The beginning of each round starts with a chain. This chain does not count as your first stitch.
- At the end of each round, you’ll join your yarn with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first stitch made in that round.
- Repeat instructions between asterisks (*) for the remainder of the round.
- You are crocheting in the round and also working from the crown of the hat down.
- You can make any size hat longer or shorter by repeating or eliminating the last row.

Double Crochet Stitch (dc)
The double crochet stitch is my favorite stitch for designing crochet hats. This popular, basic stitch is slightly taller which makes your crochet hats work up more quickly.
- Firstly, yarn over & insert hook in next stitch.
- Secondly, yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on your hook.
- Then, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You will have 2 loops on your hook.
- Lastly, yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops on your hook.

Pom Pom Instructions
Adding a pom pom to your baby beanie is optional, however, I think that they add a touch of whimsy and fun, and will transform your hat into a cheerful and eye-catching accessory. The soft, fluffy texture of a pom pom creates a delightful contrast against the hat’s fabric, making it visually appealing.
Pom poms also allow for creativity. You can make them in various sizes, different colors, and even use various materials to showcase your personal style.
Photos are from my LOVE Beanie.
Use your large Pom Pom maker.
Firmly and evenly wind your yarn around each set of arches. After the first set of arches, close them and then wind your yarn around the second set.

Next, cut the yarn between each set of arches.

Then, use your scrap piece of yarn to tie the pom pom. I recommend you double knot it.

Carefully open the arches and then use a hot melt adhesive to place a dab of glue in the center of the pom pom. This will help prevent it from unraveling.

Attach your pom pom to the top of the hat.
