Crochet Gauge

Gauge is important for this crochet beanie pattern.

15 stitches = 4 inches

9 rows = 4 inches

  • This crochet beanie pattern starts with a magic circle.
  • The beginning of each round starts with a chain which does not count as your first stitch. 
  • Join in the round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round. 
  • Repeat instructions between asterisks (*) for the remainder of the round.
  • You are crocheting in the round and working from the top of the hat down.
  • You can make any size hat longer or shorter by repeating or eliminating the last round. 
  • dc = double crochet stitches
  • hdc = half double crochet stitches
  • sc = single crochet stitches

CROCHET SNOWMAN HAT PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Snowman Hat Pattern

Rounds 1-7 are the same for all three sizes.

Begin with a festive yarn color like blue, green, or red.

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 11 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (11 stitches)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (22 stitches)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next st*, join (33 stitches)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 2 sts*, join (44 stitches)

Rnd 5: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 10 sts*, join (48 stitches)

Rnd 6: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 11 sts*, join (52 stitches)

Rnd 7: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 12 sts*, join (56 stitches)

Switch to white yarn.

Rnds 8-17: Ch 2, dc in each st, join (56 stitches)

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Rnd 8: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 13 sts*, join (60 stitches)

Switch to white yarn.

Rnds 9-18: Ch 2, dc in each st, join (60 stitches)

Rnd 8: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 13 sts*, join (60 stitches)

Rnd 9: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 14 sts*, join (64 stitches)

Switch to white yarn.

Rnds 10-19: Ch 2, dc in each st, join (64 stitches)

Eyes Pattern

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 9 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (9 stitches)

Sew the eyes onto the hat. Position them below the first round of white stitches.

Use white yarn to add the “eye sparkle”.

Nose Pattern

Row 1: Ch 6, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next 3 chs, turn (4 stitches)

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st, turn (4 stitches)

Row 3: Ch 2, hdc in each st, turn (4 stitches)

Row 4: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc2tog, turn (2 stitches)

Row 5: Ch 2, hdc2tog, turn and sc around the nose, ch-1 to turn the “corners” (1 stitch)

Sew the nose onto the hat. Center it between the eyes.

Mouth Pattern

Use a tapestry needle and black yarn to stitch a smile onto the hat.

Pom Pom

Use the same color yarn that you started your hat with.

Firmly and evenly wind your yarn around each set of arches.

After the first set of arches, close them and then wind your yarn around the second set.

Cut the yarn between each set of arches.

Use your scrap piece of yarn to tie the pom pom. I recommend you double knot it.

Use a tapestry needle to attach your Pom Pom to the top of your hat.
