Dog Hat

crochet dog hat

This one’s for all you dog lovers out there! I am dog lover myself. However, I actually designed this dog crochet hat free pattern based on a request from someone else. It was designed a few years ago for a custom order from my Etsy shop. I love taking on the challenge of custom orders that I can then develop and share here with you on the blog.

How to Crochet Dog Hat

My animal hats crochet patterns are all built upon a basic beanie design. This means that you can start the projects easily. Then each design has its own little details that bring the character of the hat to life. The crochet dog hat free pattern has puppy dog ears on top. Additionally, there’s a layering appliqué effect around one eye to create the idea of a spotted dog. Nose and mouth details plus braided ear flaps finish up the design.

All Ages Love the Puppy Dog Crochet Hat

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that animal crochet hats like this dog crochet hat are just for kids. Of course, children definitely love them. Plus, they look absolutely adorable in them. But adults can wear these designs, too, whether for costumes or just or whimsy. The pattern is written for all ages.

Use your tapestry needle to sew the eye patch, eyes, nose & ears to your hat. Use the photos I have provided as a reference for placement.

Pictures are from my Dinosaur Spike Hat.

Cut seven 30” strands of the Buff & Warm Brownyarns (total= 14 strands) for each braid.

Holding all of the strands, fold in half and pass the folded loop through the bottom of the ear flap (use hook to help).

Pass the strand ends through the loop and pull tight to form a knot.

Divide the strands into three sections and braid. Repeat for 2nd braid.

You are all done! I hope you enjoyed this pattern. Tag me on Instagram (lovable_loops) or Facebook to share your pictures with me!
