Farmer's Market Tote

SEPTEMBER 19, 2020

I had so much fun with this one. I wanted to design something with various colors and stitches. I used bobbles and star stitches. I love the look it created. I think it has a summery look- you could use any colors to give it a different feel. I also learned something- 124 is a horrible number for pattern repeats. It's not divisible by very many numbers. I'm not the best at math so it made me a little crazy. My husband even tried to help. But, in the end, I got it sorted out and now I get to enjoy my bag. I hope you like my pattern. Bag is worked in the round.

Strap is worked in rows.

Joins are made with a slip stitch.

Colors changes are made when joining.

You can fasten off old color during color changes or choose to carry the yarn up.

Work first stitch(es) of each round in same stitch as joining unless otherwise stated.

The single crochet that comes after the bobble stitch should be made behind the bobble stitch so that the bobble pops out on the right side.

The first star stitch of each round begins in the middle of the beginning ch 3.

The hdc2tog at the end of the star stitch rounds will prevent you from having a hole between your last star stitch and last stitch of the round.

Star Stitch (ss): insert hk in 1st st, yo, pull up a lp, [insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp] 4 times, yo and pull through all 6 lps on hook and ch 1. Insert hk in ch just made, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook in side of last star st, yo, pull up a lp, insert hook in chain at base of last star st, yo, pull up a loop, [insert hook in next ch, yo, pull up a lp] 2 times, yo, pull through all 6 lps on hk, ch 1

Note: The first star stitch of each round begins in the middle of the beginning ch 3.

Annie's Catalog has helpful illustrations for the star stitch. Just click this link to visit their site.

Bobble Stitch (bo): [Yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 5 times, yo, draw through all 6 lps on hook.

The photos for the bag bottom are from my Market Bag pattern. It is smaller/ has less beginning chains and also uses are larger crochet hook. I included them to show you how to make the bag bottom but remember that your work will be longer.
