dc= double crochet
hdc= half double crochet
sc= single crochet
ch= chain
ch(s)= chains
st= stitch
st(s)= stitches
rem= remaining
dc2tog= double crochet 2 stitches together

  • you are crocheting in the round
  • hat is worked from the top down
  • the ch at the beginning of each round never counts as your first stitch
  • you can make any size hat longer or shorter by repeating or eliminating the second to last row

Crochet hook: I 5.5mm
Yarn: white

Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round.

Rnd 1: magic ring, ch 2, 11 dc, join with sl st in top of first dc [11]

Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 dc in same st, 2 dc in each rem st, join [22]

Rnd 3: ch 2, 2 dc in same st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st*, join [33]

Rnd 4: ch 2, 2 dc in same st, dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts*, join [44]

Rnd 5: ch 2, 2 dc in same st, dc in next 10 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 10 sts*, join [48]

Make 2.

Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round.

Rnd 1: magic ring, ch 2, 8 hdc, join with sl st in top of first hdc [8]

Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each rem st, join [16]

Rnd 3: ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st*, join [24]

For round 4 you are repeating the instructions between the two asterisks only until you get to the last 6 stitches.

Rnd 4: ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 sts, repeat between *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts*, sc in the last 6 sts, join [33]

Use your tapestry needle to sew the ears to the hat. Use the photos I have provided as a reference for placement.

Crochet hook: G 4mm
Yarn: black & white

Make 2 of each.

Instructions for the black patches:

Rnd 1: ch 7, 2 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, hdc in the next 3 chs, 2 hdc in the last ch

You are now going to turn your work and work in the round in the backside of the chains.

2 hdc (this is made in the back of the chain you made your last sts in), hdc in the back of the next three chs, 2 hdc in the back of the last ch, join [14]

Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in the first two sts, hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the next 4 sts, hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the last two sts, join [22]

Rnd 3: ch 2, 2 hdc in the first three sts, hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the next 6 sts, hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the last three sts, join and fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing [34]

Instructions for the eye balls:

Start with the black yarn.

Rnd 1: magic ring, ch 1, 4 sc, join with sl st in top of first sc [4]

Join your white yarn.

Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each rem st, join [8]

Use your tapestry needle to sew the eyeballs to the black patches. Then, sew the back patches to your hat. Use the photos I have provided as a reference for placement.

Crochet hook: G 4mm
Yarn: black

Rnd 1: magic ring, ch 2, 6 hdc, join with sl st in top of first hdc [6]

Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in 4 sts, leave the last two sts unworked (those unworked sts are the bottom of the nose), fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing [8]

Use your tapestry needle to sew the nose to your hat. Use the photos I have provided as a reference for placement.

Use your tapestry needle  and black yarn to sew a mouth.
