Materials Needed
- Crochet hook sizes:
Hat & scarf: H-8 5 mm
Hat brim: I-9 5.5 mm
Scarf ribbing: J-10 6 mm - Yarn: Worsted weight yarn #4 in white, red, orange, yellow, and blue
- Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): These help keep track of your stitches.
- Large pom pom maker: For making a pom pom for your hat.
Gauge
7 stitches and 4 rows = 2 inches (5 cm)

Crochet Hat and Scarf Set Size
One size fits most teens and adults with a head circumference of 20-23 inches.
The scarf measures 69 inches long.

Crochet abbreviations
- dc = double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- blo = back loop only
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- rnd/rnds = round/rounds
- rem = remaining
Pattern Notes
- The hat is worked in the round from the top down.
- The brim is made separately and then sewn onto the hat.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
- The pattern is written in US terms.
Magic Circle Alternative
If you’re not comfortable with using a magic circle, you can use an alternative method to make round 1 of the beanie. This method is just as effective and might be easier for beginners.
Round 1: Chain 4, make 11 dc in the 4th ch from the hook, join (11 stitches)

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 11 dc, join (11 stitches)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (22 stitches)
red yarn
Rnd 3: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next st*, join (33 stitches)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 2 sts*, join (44 stitches)
white yarn
Rnd 5: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 10 sts*, join (48 stitches)
Rnd 6: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 11 sts*, join (52 stitches)
orange yarn
Rnd 7: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 12 sts*, join (56 stitches)
Rnd 8: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 13 sts*, join (60 stitches)
white yarn

Rnd 10: Ch 2, dc in each st, join (64 stitches)

Rnd 17: Ch 2, dc in each st, join and fasten off (64 stitches)
Adding the brim
- Brim is made separately and then sewn to the hat.
- I-9 5.5 mm crochet hook size
- Use white yarn
Row 1: Ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch, turn (6 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st in the back loops only, turn (6 stitches)
Row 3-64: Repeat row 2
Use your tapestry needle to sew the brim to the hat. Sew each stitch of the hat to a row of the brim. The brim will stretch as you go.
Adding a pom pom
- Wind the yarn around both arches.
- Cut the yarn along the middle gap.
- Tie with a piece of scrap yarn.
- Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
- Trim any loose ends.
Attach the pom pom to the top of your hat.
Crochet Scarf Pattern Instructions
Ribbing Ends for the Crochet Scarf Pattern
- Make 2
- J-10 6 mm crochet hook size
- Use white yarn
Row 1: Ch 19, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch, turn (18 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st in the back loops only, turn (18 stitches)
Row 3-20: Repeat row 2
Fasten off the first ribbing you make and set it aside. This will be sewn onto the end of the scarf.
Don’t fasten off after making the second ribbing.
Crochet Scarf Pattern
- Continue from where you left off for the second ribbing.
- H-8 5 mm crochet hook size
Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in each row of the ribbing, turn (20 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st, turn (20 stitches)
Rows 3- 138: Repeat row 2, following this color sequence:
- 2 rounds blue
- 2 rounds white
- 2 rounds red
- 2 rounds white
- 2 rounds orange
- 2 rounds white
- 2 rounds yellow
- 2 rows soft white
Fasten off. Line up the other ribbing you made. Sew each stitch from the scarf to one row of the ribbing. Weave in all the ends.
Finishing
Fasten off and then weave in the ends.
