Hat pattern

Use an H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook.

White yarn

Round 1: Make a magic circle, ch 2, work 11 dc into the ring. Join. (11 sts)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (22 sts)

Change to red yarn.

Round 3: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (33 sts)

Round 4: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts; repeat from * around. Join. (44 sts)

Change to white yarn.

Round 5: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 10 sts; repeat from * around. Join. (48 sts)

Round 6: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 11 sts; repeat from * around. Join. (52 sts)

Change to orange yarn.

Round 7: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 12 sts; repeat from * around. Join. (56 sts)

Round 8: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 13 sts; repeat from * around. Join. (60 sts)

Change to white yarn.

Round 9: Ch 2, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 14 sts; repeat from * around. Join. (64 sts)

Round 10: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (64 sts)

Change to yellow yarn.

Rounds 11–12: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (64 sts)

Change to white yarn.

Change to blue yarn.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Crochet the hat brim

Use an I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook and white yarn.

Row 1: Ch 7, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each remaining ch. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc BLO in each st across. Turn. (6 sts)

Rows 3–64: Repeat Row 2. (6 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.

Line up one long edge of the ribbed brim with the bottom edge of the hat. Use a yarn needle and the long yarn tail to sew each of the 64 hat sts to one row of the brim. Stretch the brim gently as needed to keep it even.

After attaching the brim, sew its two short ends together to close the seam. Weave in the ends.

Make and attach the pom pom

Use white yarn and a large pom pom maker.

  1. Wind the yarn around both arches of the pom pom maker.
  2. Close the arches and cut the yarn along the middle gap.
  3. Tie a separate piece of yarn tightly around the center of the pom pom.
  4. Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
  5. Trim the yarn ends to shape the pom pom.

Use the long tying strands to attach the pom pom securely to the center of the hat’s crown. Weave in the ends.

Scarf pattern

Crochet the ribbed scarf ends

Make 2 using a J-10 (6 mm) crochet hook and white yarn.

Row 1: Ch 19, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each remaining ch. Turn. (18 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc BLO in each st across. Turn. (18 sts)

Rows 3–20: Repeat Row 2. (18 sts)

Fasten off the first ribbed end and set it aside. You will sew it to the opposite end of the scarf later.

Do not fasten off after completing the second ribbed end. Continue directly to the scarf body.

Crochet the scarf body

Switch to an H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook. Continue using white yarn.

Row 1: Rotate the ribbing to work along the ends of its 20 rows. Ch 2, work 1 hdc into the end of each row across. Turn. (20 sts)

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st across. Turn. (20 sts)

Rows 3–138: Repeat Row 2, changing yarn colors every 2 rows in the following sequence:

  • 2 rows blue
  • 2 rows white
  • 2 rows red
  • 2 rows white
  • 2 rows orange
  • 2 rows white
  • 2 rows yellow
  • 2 rows white

Repeat the color sequence until you have completed Row 138. Keep 20 sts in each row.

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.

Attach the second ribbed end

Lay the scarf flat and line up the remaining ribbed end with the last row of the scarf.

Use a yarn needle and the long yarn tail to sew each of the 20 scarf sts to one row of the ribbing. Make sure the ribbing is evenly attached.

Fasten off securely and weave in all remaining ends.
