Materials Needed

  • Crochet Hook Size: J-10 (6 mm)
  • Bulky weight yarn: I used Premier Puzzle yarn in the colors “Cats Cradle” (pink) and “Hangman” (blue).
  • Tapestry needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
  • Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
  • Stitch markers: I always use these when I design my free crochet patterns. They help me keep track of where to make increases.
  • Tape measure: Use a measuring tape to find your baby’s head circumference.
  • Pom Pom Maker: This is a great tool for making a pom pom for your hat.

Best Yarn for Baby Beanies

Picking a yarn for your next crochet project can be really fun. I love going to the store and looking at the many different colors of my favorite yarns. When you choose yarn for a baby hat, it is important to find a yarn that is soft, washable, and safe for babies. We want to keep those little ears warm after all.

Skill Level

Beginner- This pattern uses basic stitches in basic form and in simple repeats in rounds.

Finished Measurements

I designed this hat for a 0-3 months old baby. It will fit a head circumference of up to 14 inches.

The height of the hat measures 5 inches.

To check your gauge, crochet the first four rounds of the hat. It should measure 4 inches across the middle.

If your swatch is larger than 4 inches, your gauge is looser than mine. Try a smaller crochet hook.

If your swatch is smaller than 4 inches, your gauge is tighter than mine. Try a larger crochet hook.

  • Hook: J-10 (6 mm)
  • Yarn: Bulky weight (#5)
