Crochet Scarecrow Hat Pattern Information
Here’s a quick overview of the materials, sizing, gauge, and pattern notes before you begin.
Skill Level
Beginner. This crochet hat pattern uses basic stitches in basic form and in simple repeats in rounds.

Materials Needed
- Crochet hook size: I-9 5.5 mm or hook size needed for gauge
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn #4 in orange, tan, and brown.
- Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): Optional. Use these to help keep track of your stitches.

15 stitches and 10 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm)

Crochet abbreviations
- dc = double crochet
- sc = single crochet stitch
- hdc = half double crochet stitch
- st = stitch
- sts = stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- ch = chain
- chs = chains

- rem = remaining
Pattern Notes
- The chain at the beginning of each round does not count as your first stitch.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- You are crocheting in the round from the top of the hat down.
- The pattern is written in US terms.
Magic Circle Alternative
If you’re not comfortable with using a magic circle, you can use an alternative method to make round 1 of the beanie. This method is just as effective and might be easier for beginners.

Single crochet around the patch, fasten off, and sew it to the hat. Then, add stitches using brown yarn.
Finishing the Crochet Scarecrow Hat Pattern
Thread brown yarn back and forth through the last row of double crochet stitches before the brim. Then, tie the yarn into a bow. Weave in the ends.
