Granny Stitch Scarf

dc= double crochet
sc= single crochet
ch= chain
ch(s)= chains
st= stitch
st(s)= stitches
sp= space
rem= remaining

  • you can easily make your scarf wider, just make sure your beginning chain is a multiple of 3+2
  • a granny stitch is a cluster of 3dc in the same ch sp

3 granny cluster stitches= 2 inches

9 rows= 4 inches

Instructions between asterisks (*) should be repeated for the remainder of the row.

chain 20 (18+2)

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each rem ch, turn [19]

Row 2: ch 3, 1 dc in same st, *skip over 2 sts, 3 dc in next st*, 2 dc in the last st, turn [you will have 5 granny stitches]

Row 3: ch 2, 3 dc in nearest ch sp, *3 dc in each ch sp from previous row*, 1 dc in the top of the turning ch, turn [6 granny stitches]

Row 4: ch 2, 1 dc in same st, *3 dc in each ch sp*, 2 dc in last st, turn [5 granny stitches]

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until you reach row 144. 

Row 145: ch 1, sc in each st, fasten off

Using a tapestry needle, sew sc ends together.
