Why you’ll love this crochet flower blanket pattern!

Don’t let the fancy look of this crochet throw pattern fool you, it’s actually super easy and fun to make! You can follow the written row-by-row instructions or print and follow the pixel graph — whichever you like best.

The colorful tulip rows are only at the top and bottom, and the middle section is made with simple double crochet stitches with no color changes. It’s one of my favorite crochet blanket designs! Once you finish the tulips, the rest of the crochet blanket flower pattern flies by!

Even if you’ve never tried tapestry crochet before, don’t worry. Just take your time, count your stitches, and enjoy watching your tulip garden bloom one relaxing row at a time.

How tapestry crochet makes this blanket special

This cheerful tulip crochet pattern uses a fun technique called tapestry crochet. In tapestry crochet, you carry different colors of yarn along as you work. This lets you create pictures and patterns without cutting your yarn or making a mess!

For this crochet blanket afghan, you’ll use simple double crochet stitches to build the colorful tulips. Even if you’re new to tapestry crochet, don’t worry! I made the pattern easy to follow, with clear steps to help you along the way.

Before you know it, you’ll have a blanket full of bright, happy tulips.

Why the crochet flower blanket is perfect for gifting

The flower blanket crochet pattern makes a perfect handmade gift! If you’re looking for something special for a friend, this blanket is full of cheerful charm.

It’s also a beautiful idea for a flower baby blanket crochet—imagine how cute this would look in a nursery! And if you love helping others, you can crochet it as a fundraiser donation to spread a little extra love.

Handmade gifts always mean so much because they show you spent time and care. This blanket is sure to make anyone feel warm, loved, and appreciated!

Great for every season

The tulip flower crochet pattern blanket is perfect for springtime, but you’ll love it all year long. In the spring, it feels fresh and bright. In the summer, it reminds you of colorful gardens. In the colder months, it brings a little extra cheer when the flowers outside are gone.

This sweet floral crochet design pattern makes any room feel lighter and happier. It’s like bringing a little piece of the outdoors inside—no watering needed! You’ll find yourself reaching for this cozy blanket again and again, no matter the season.

Skill level

Beginner to Advanced Beginner

If you know basic crochet stitches like double crochet and are ready to learn simple colorwork, you’ll do great!

Materials needed

  • Worsted weight yarn in white, red, pink, yellow, blue, orange, and purple (background + tulip colors)
  • Size 6.0 mm (J-10) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Tip: Choose easy-care yarns like acrylic or cotton blends, especially for baby gifts!

Yarn yardage

To crochet the Tulip Garden Blanket, you’ll need approximately 2,468 yards (1,229 grams) of yarn in total.

Here’s the color breakdown:

  • White (background): about 2,211 yards (1,100 grams)
  • Green (stems and leaves): about 91 yards (45 grams)
  • Tulip Petal Colors (pink, orange, blue, yellow, purple, red): about 28 yards (14 grams) each

Tip: You can easily use scrap yarn or small leftover balls for the tulip petal colors. It’s a great way to use up yarn you already have!

Choosing the best yarn

For this blanket, I recommend using soft worsted-weight yarn. It gives the blanket a nice cozy feel without being too heavy. Cotton or acrylic yarns both work great, depending on what you like.

Choose yarns that are easy to wash, especially if you’re making a crochet baby blanket free pattern! The yarn you pick can change the whole feel of your blanket, so have fun playing with textures and colors until it’s just right for you.

Customize your blanket with your favorite colors

One of the best things about this crochet tapestry pattern is that you can pick any colors you love! I used a white background with tulips in lots of bright colors to make it feel like a rainbow garden. But you could choose any background color—like a soft blue sky or a grassy green.

You can also change the crochet tulip pattern colors to match your home or favorite style. Use soft pastels for a sweet spring look, or go bold with bright and sunny shades for summer. It’s so much fun creating a blanket that’s totally you!

Finished size

  • Approximate size: 52 inches wide x 60 inches long

Adjust the size for a perfect length

You can easily adjust the length of this crochet flower blanket pattern. Simply add or remove rows of double crochet stitches in the center section to make it longer or shorter.

The tulip rows stay at the ends, so the flowers always look just right. It’s so easy to create the perfect crochet blanket size for you or someone you love.

Gauge

  • 4 inches = 14 double crochet stitches and 9 rows

Gauge is how many stitches and rows fit into a certain space, and it helps your blanket turn out the right size.

Tip: If your gauge is too small, try using a bigger hook. If it’s too big, try a smaller hook!

Stitch abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

Pattern notes

  • Follow the pixel graph or the written instructions.
  • Chain 2 at the beginning of each row.
  • Each square on the graph represents a double crochet stitch
  • Read the graph from right to left ← on odd-numbered rows, and left to right → on even-numbered rows.
  • The tulip designs are made by carrying yarn colors across the rows (tapestry crochet).
  • The center section is simple double crochet rows with no color changes.

Tapestry crochet color changes

Changing colors in tapestry crochet is easy once you get the hang of it! Here’s how you’ll do it for this crochet flower blanket pattern:

  • Always change colors one stitch before you need the new color.
  • To change colors, yarn over with the new color during the last yarn over and pull through of the previous stitch.
  • Carry the unused yarn inside your stitches so it stays hidden and neat — don’t drop it!
  • Keep your carried yarn a little loose (not too tight) so your blanket doesn’t bunch up.

Tip: Practice a few color changes on a small swatch before you start your tulip rows! It’ll help you feel super confident.

Helpful tips

  • Practice carrying two yarns before starting the tulip rows.
  • Keep your tension even for the cleanest flower shapes.
  • Use stitch markers at the beginning and end of the tulip sections to stay on track.
  • Block your finished blanket lightly if needed to smooth out the colorwork.
