I’m super excited to share my Santa Hat Crochet Pattern with you! This fun and festive hat features a cute Santa face wearing a pom pom hat. Designed for all sizes, from baby to adult, it’s perfect for the whole family.
Santa Hat Crochet Pattern Information
Here’s a quick overview of the materials, sizing, gauge, and pattern notes before you begin.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner. This crochet hat pattern uses basic stitches in basic form and in simple repeats in rounds.
Materials Needed
- Crochet hook sizes:
Hat: I-9 5.5
Face pieces: H-8 5 mm - Yarn:
Worsted weight yarn #4: black, white, pink, red, and skin color
Super bulky weight yarn #6: white - Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): These help keep track of your stitches.
- Large pom pom maker: For making a pom pom for your hat.

Crochet Gauge
15 stitches and 10 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm)

Crochet abbreviations
- dc = double crochet stitch
- sc = single crochet stitch
- hdc = half double crochet stitch
- sc2tog = single crochet decrease
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- rnd/rnds = round/rounds
Pattern Notes
- The hat is worked in the round from the top down.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
- The pattern is written in US terms.
Magic Circle Alternative
If you’re not comfortable with using a magic circle, you can use an alternative method to make round 1 of the beanie. This method is just as effective and might be easier for beginners.
Round 1: Chain 4, make 6 dc in the 4th ch from the hook, join (6 stitches)

Make a magic ring and 6 hdc, join and fasten off. Leave a long tail to sew onto hat. Use white yarn to add the eye sparkle.
Cheeks
H-8 5 mm crochet hook and pink yarn.
Magic ring, ch 2, 9 dc, join and fasten off. Leave a long tail to sew onto hat.
Assembling the Santa Hat
Sew the nose, mustache, cheeks and eyes onto the hat.
Stitch the eyebrows using white yarn and the smile using pink yarn.
Adding a pom pom
Use super bulky white yarn.
- Wind the yarn around both arches.
- Cut the yarn along the middle gap.
- Tie with a piece of scrap yarn.
- Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
- Trim any loose ends.
Attach the pom pom to the top of your hat.
Finishing
Weave in your ends.
