Crochet Cat Hat & Fox Hat

crochet fox and cat hats

When you first glance at these simple crochet animal hats, you might not be sure what animals they represent. That’s the idea. While many of my crochet animal hats are very detailed in their designs, these are meant to be more subtle. They’re intended as either cat or fox designs. However, you might see a different animal in there.

Subtle Animal Crochet Hats for All Ages

Obviously, anyone can wear outrageous crochet animal hats. I have lots of fun designs with lots of detail. These can be costume pieces, photo props, or whimsical wear. However, for more subdued but still fun style, adults might prefer these subtle cat and fox crochet hat designs. Kids will like them as well; the ears add just that little bit of magic that turn a basic beanie into a fun animal design.

Easy Crochet Hat Pattern for Beginners

All of my animal crochet hats are pretty easy beginner designs. You start with a basic beanie and then add details. Since the only extras on these hats are the ears, they offer a great place to start expanding beyond the simplest crochet skills. You’ll learn some shaping and finishing techniques. Then you can build even more from there. If you can crochet in the round using basic stitches then you can make these hats.

Use your  tapestry needle to sew the inner ears to the outer ear. Sew through the sc border from the inner ear and the front loop of the sc border from the outer ear. This will prevent the different color yarn from peeking through on the backside of the ears.

Sew the ears to your hat. I attached mine to the third round of my hat.

You are done! I hope you enjoyed this pattern. I’d love to see your pictures if you want to share with me on Instagram!
