Crochet Project Materials Needed
- Crochet hook sizes:
I-9 5.5 mm (hat) or size needed for gauge
H-8 5 mm (eye & brain)
4.5 mm (hanging eyeball) - Yarn: Worsted weight yarn #4 in pink, green, red, black, blue, white, and gray.
- Fiber fill: Use this to stuff the hanging eyeball.
- Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): Optional. Use these to help keep track of your stitches.

Crochet Terms
- dc = double crochet

Pattern Notes
- The chain at the beginning of each round does not count as your first stitch.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.

Braids for the Crochet Zombie Hat Pattern
Cut twelve 30” strands of yarn for each braid.
- Fold the strands in half and pass the folded loop through the bottom of the ear flap.
- Pass the strand ends through the loop and pull tight to form a knot.
- Divide into three sections and braid.
Flat Eyeball & Eye Socket Patterns
Use an H-8 5 mm crochet hook. Make one in white and one in black.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, 9 dc, join (9 stitches)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join, fasten off & leave a long tail for sewing on (18 stitches)
Sew the flat eyeball and the eye socket (for the hanging eyeball) onto front of hat.
Pupil for the Flat Eyeball
Use an H-8 5 mm crochet hook and start with black yarn.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, 4 sc, join (4 stitches)
Switch to blue yarn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st, join and fasten off (8 stitches)
Sew the pupil to the flat eyeball. Use red yarn to add veins.
Hanging Eyeball Pattern
Use a 4.5 mm crochet hook and start with black yarn.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, 3 sc, join (3 stitches)
Switch to blue yarn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st, join (6 stitches)
Switch to white yarn.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *2 sc, sc in 1 st*, join (9 stitches)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, *2 sc, sc in 2 sts*, join (12 stitches)
Rnds 5-7: Ch 1, sc in each st, join (12 stitches)
Rnd 8: Ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in 2 sts*, join (9 stitches)
Begin stuffing with fiber fill and add the veins with red yarn.
Rnd 9: Ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in 1 st, join (6 stitches)
Rnd 10: Ch 1, *sc2tog*, (3 stitches)
Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc2tog, join and fasten off- close last st with your yarn tail.
Tie a piece of red yarn to the eyeball and attach the other end to the middle of the black eye socket.
Use your tapestry needle to add red yarn to the bottom of the eye socket to make it look like blood is coming out.
Zombie Mouth Instructions
Use your tapestry needle to attach a piece of black yarn straight across 11 stitches, centering it under the eyes.
Add red yarn to the bottom of the mouth line to make it look like blood is coming out.
Zombie Brain Pattern
Make 3 using an H-8 5 mm crochet hook and pink yarn.
0-3, 3-6, and 6-12 Months Size Brain
Ch 46, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each rem ch, fasten off (45 stitches)
Toddler, Child, and Adult Size Brain
Ch 50 and sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each rem ch, fasten off (49 stitches)
Brain Assembly
Two pieces are for the front of the brain, and the third piece is for the back half.
Attach the front pieces alternately on either side of the front, leaving a little space between them to define the left and right sections. The third piece should loosely fill the back half.
Use gray yarn to make a dotted line in each squiggle. Outline the bottom of the brain and in between the squiggles with red yarn.

Fasten off and then weave in the ends.
