- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- You are crocheting in the round from the top of the hat down.
- Use black yarn for the bead stitch rounds (11, 14, & 17)
- The pattern is written in US terms.
Special Stitches: Bead Stitch Notes
- The ch-3 at the beginning of the bead stitch rounds counts as the first stitch.
- The last stitch of the bead stitch rounds is a regular double crochet.
- Each bead stitch is the width of two stitches. You will have the double crochet stitch (post of the bead) and the stitch made in step 6 below.
How to Crochet the Bead Stitch
- Make a dc. This dc is the post for your bead stitch. You are going to work around the dc.
- YO and pull up a loop. 3 loops on your hook.
- YO and pull up another loop. 5 loops on your hook.
- YO and pull up another loop. 7 loops on your hook.
- YO and pull through 6 of the loops. 2 loops rem on your hook.
- YO and pull through the 2 loops. Bead stitch made.
- Skip a stitch and dc in the next stitch to start the next bead.
Magic Circle Alternative
If you’re not comfortable with using a magic circle, you can use an alternative method to make round 1 of the pattern. This method is just as effective and might be easier for beginners.
Round 1: Chain 4, make 11 dc in the 4th ch from the hook, join (11 stitches)

Pom Poms for the Bead Stitch Crochet Beanie Pattern
Make 3 pom poms with your pom maker. Use black yarn.
- Wind the yarn around both arches.
- Cut the yarn along the middle gap.
- Tie with a piece of scrap yarn.
- Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
- Trim any loose ends.
Attach one pom pom to the top of your hat.
Braids for the Bead Stitch Crochet Beanie Pattern
I made 9″ braids to attach the pom poms to the earflaps. For thinner braids, I used 6 strands of yarn for each braid. If you want thicker braids, just use more strands of yarn.
To attach the pom poms, use a tapestry needle to secure them to one end of each braid. Then, attach the other end of the braids to the earflaps.
Finishing the Bead Stitch Crochet Beanie Pattern
Weave in all of your ends.
