Special Stitches: Bead Stitch Notes

  • The ch-3 at the beginning of the bead stitch rounds counts as the first stitch.
  • The last stitch of the bead stitch rounds is a regular double crochet.
  • Each bead stitch is the width of two stitches. You will have the double crochet stitch (post of the bead) and the stitch made in step 6 below.

Row 13: Ch 1, sc2tog (1 stitch)

Repeat for second earflap and then use black yarn to single crochet around the hat.

Add the Pom Poms

Make 3 pom poms with your pom maker. Use black yarn.

  1. Wind the yarn around both arches.
  2. Cut the yarn along the middle gap.
  3. Tie with a piece of scrap yarn.
  4. Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
  5. Trim any loose ends.

Attach one pom pom to the top of your hat.

Braids for the Pom Poms

I made 9″ braids to attach the pom poms to the earflaps. For thinner braids, I used 6 strands of yarn for each braid. If you want thicker braids, just use more strands of yarn.

To attach the pom poms, use a tapestry needle to secure them to one end of each braid. Then, attach the other end of the braids to the earflaps.

Finishing

Weave in all of your ends.
