This mini C2C crochet witch hat pattern is a cute little square for Halloween projects! The small witch hat panel can be used for blankets, pillows, tote bags, wall hangings, treat bags, wreaths, and spooky season decor. I used this square for my Halloween crochet treat bag pattern.

This advanced beginner C2C crochet witch hat pattern uses worsted weight (#4) yarn and a G-6 (4 mm) crochet hook. The 5-inch (13 cm) square is worked diagonally in 17 C2C rows with white, black, purple, and yellow yarn, increasing to 9 blocks before decreasing.   • Worsted weight yarn (#4) in black, white, purple, and yellow
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

The finished square measures 5 x 5 inches (13 x 13 cm).

8 C2C blocks = 4 inches (10 cm)

Pattern notes

  • The square is worked corner to corner in diagonal rows, beginning at the bottom right corner and ending at the top left corner.
  • Each C2C block consists of ch 3 and 3 dc.
  • Ch 6 to begin an increase row and ch 3 to begin each new C2C block.
  • Rows 1–9 increase by one block per row, ending with 9 blocks in Row 9.
  • Beginning with Row 10, decrease at both ends of each row until 1 block remains.
  • When changing colors, switch to the new color as you join with a sl st to the next C2C block.
  • You can follow either the picture graph or the written color counts.
  • The written instructions list the number of blocks to make in each color and the order in which to work them.
  • ↙ indicates a right-side row.
  • ↗ indicates a wrong-side row.

Add the border

Using your chosen border color, join yarn in any corner.

Ch 1. Work 2 sc along the edge of each C2C block. In each corner block, work (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) instead of the usual 2 sc.

Continue around all four sides. Join with a sl st to the first sc and fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all remaining yarn ends. Block the square if desired.
