Free Crochet Party Hat Pattern
Crochet Project Materials Needed
- Crochet hook sizes:
H-8 5 mm (hat, brim, & curls) or hook needed to obtain gauge.
E-4 3.5 mm (c2c 2025 graph) - Yarn: Worsted weight yarn #4 in black, white, red, yellow, green, and blue.
- Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): These help keep track of your stitches.
- Large pom pom maker: For making a pom pom for your hat.

- dc = double crochet

- blo = back loop only
- ch/chs = chain/chains

C2C Crochet Technique
- The pattern is made using the c2c technique of making “squares” in diagonal rows starting in the bottom right corner and ending in the top left corner.
- Each square is made of a chain 3 + 3 double crochet.
- Chain 6 to start a new row and chain 3 to start a new square.
- You can follow the picture graph or the written pattern.
- The written pattern tells you how many squares to make of each color and in what order.

Pattern Notes
- Rounds 1-20 are the same for both sizes.
- The chain at the beginning of each round does not count as your first stitch.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- You are crocheting in the round from the top of the hat down.
- The brim is made separately and then sewn to the hat.
- The pattern is written in US terms.

Making the Brim of your Crochet Party Hat Pattern
Use an H-8 5 mm crochet hook. Brim is made separately and then sewn to the hat.
Row 1: Ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch, turn (10 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st in the back loops only, turn (10 stitches)
Child Size: Repeat row 2 for a total of 84 rows.
Adult Size: Repeat row 2 for a total of 92 rows.
Use your tapestry needle to sew the brim to the hat. Sew each stitch from the hat to a row of the brim. The brim will stretch as you go.
Add a Pom Pom to your Crochet Party Hat Pattern
- Wind the yarn around both arches.
- Cut the yarn along the middle gap.
- Tie with a piece of scrap yarn.
- Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
- Trim any loose ends.
Attach the pom pom to the top of your hat.
Add Curls to your Crochet Party Hat Pattern
Use an H-8 5 mm crochet hook. Make one in each color.
Row 1: Ch 22, 3 dc in 3rd ch from the hook and in each rem ch, fasten off (60 stitches)
Attach the curls to the top of your hat.
