Porg Hat Crochet Pattern Instructions
Crochet hook: I 5.5 mm
Yarn: brown
Instructions between two asterisks (*) should be repeated for the remainder of the round.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 11 dc, join with sl st in top of first dc [11]
Rnd 2: ch 2, *2 dc in each st, join [22]
Rnd 3: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next st*, join [33]
Rnd 4: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 2 sts*, join [44]
Rnd 5: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 10 sts*, join [48]
Rnd 6: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 11 sts*, join [52]
Rnd 7: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 12 sts*, join [56]
Rnd 8: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 13 sts*, join [60]

Ear-Flaps
Firstly, begin the first earflap where you ended the last round of your hat.
For the second earflap, leave 20 stitches in front and leave 16 stitches in back.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 14, turn (14 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in 10 sts, sc2tog, turn (12 stitches)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st, turn (12 stitches)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in 8 sts, sc2tog, turn (10 stitches)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each st, turn (10 stitches)
Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in 6 sts, sc2tog, turn (8 stitches)
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each st, turn (8 stitches)
Row 8: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in 4 sts, sc2tog, turn (6 stitches)
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each st, turn (6 stitches)
Row 10: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in 2 sts, sc2tog, turn (4 stitches)

Crochet hook: 4.5 mm
Yarn: black

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st, join [12]
Round 3: ch 1, *2 sc, sc in next st*, join [18]

Eye Sparkle
Crochet hook: 4.5 mm
Yarn: white
Magic circle and make 2 sc, 3 hdc, 2 sc, 3 hdc, join to top of first sc and finish off, leaving along tail to sew onto hat.
Face
Crochet hook: 4.5 mm
Yarn: white
Row 1: ch 27, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in all rem chs, ch 1, turn [26]
Rows 2- 8: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [26]
Row 9: sc2tog, sc in 22 sts, sc2tog, ch 1, turn [24]
Row 10: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [24]
Row 11: sc2tog, sc in 20 sts, sc2tog, ch 1, turn [22]
Row 12: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [22]

Use tapestry needle and black yarn to sew frown & nostrils onto hat.
Eye Patches
Crochet hook: 4.5 mm
Yarn: yellowish gold
Make 2. Pattern is the same for both sides.
Row 1: ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch, ch 1, turn [15]
Row 2: sc in 14 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn [16]
Row 3: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [16]
Row 4: sc in 15 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn [17]
Row 5: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [17]
Row 6: sc in 16 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn [18]
Row 7: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [18]
Row 8: sc in 17 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn [19]
Row 9: sc in each st, ch 1, turn [19]
Row 10: sc in 18 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn [20]

Row 22: sc2tog, sc in 15 sts, sc2tog and *continue to sc all of the way around, join, fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto hat.
Pattern is the same for both sides BUT, when you get to row 22 and sc around the shape, go in the opposite direction so that the right side will be facing you when you sew it onto the hat.

Braids
Cut five 30” strands of the brown, yellowish gold & white yarns. Total= 15 strands.
Holding all of the strands, fold in half and pass the folded loop through the bottom of the ear flap. Use a crochet hook to help.
Pass the strand ends through the loop and pull tight to form a knot. You will now have 30 strands.
Divide the strands into three sections, with 10 strands in each section, and braid. Repeat for 2nd braid.
