Granny Square Crochet Pattern Notes
- The granny square pattern is written in US terms.
- You will make the granny square first and then add the chicken parts.
- The stitch counts are listed at the end of every row/round.
- The granny square is made with the circle to square technique.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- The chain at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.

You will make the granny square first and then add the face parts.

White yarn
Rnd 1: Magic circle, 11 DC, join to first DC (11 stitches)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, make 2 DC in each st, join (22 stitches)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, *2 DC, DC in the next stitch*, join (33 stitches)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, *2 DC, DC in the next 2 sts*, join with blue yarn (44 stitches)
Blue yarn
Rnd 5: Ch 2, *(2 DC, ch-2, 2 DC), DC in the next 10 sts*, join
Rnds 6-8: Ch 2, DC in each st and (2 DC, ch-2, 2 DC) in each ch-2 corner space
Chicken Eyes Pattern
Make 2 using black yarn. Leave a long tail for sewing.
Ch 2, make 6 SC in the 2nd ch from hook, fasten off
Sew the eyes to the chicken’s face.
Chicken Beak Pattern
Orange yarn
Row 1: Ch 6, SC in the 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch, turn (5 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, SC in next st, sc2tog, turn (3 stitches)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc3tog, fasten off
Sew the beak to the center of the chicken’s face, just below the eyes.
Hair Curls Pattern
Make 3 using red yarn.
Ch 4, make 2 SC in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each rem ch, fasten off (6 stitches)
Sew the curls to the top of the head.
