Free Crochet Easter Egg Applique Pattern

My Easter egg applique pattern is fantastic for beginners! It’s designed to be simple and easy to follow, so if you’re just starting out with crocheting, this is the perfect project for you.

Materials Needed

  • Crochet Hook Size: H-8 5 mm
  • Yarn: worsted weight yarn
  • Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
  • Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
  • Stitch marker(s): Use these to help keep track of your stitches.

Gauge

2 rounds = 1 inch and 5 stitches = 1 inch

Supplies

  • Hook: H-8 5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn: medium yarn weight
  • Notions: stitch markers & tapestry needle

Crochet Terms

  • hdc = half double crochet stitches
  • sc = single crochet stitches
  • ch/chs = chain/chains
  • st/sts = stitch/stitches
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • rnd/rnds = round/rounds
  • rem = remaining

Pattern Notes

  • The pattern starts with a magic circle (magic ring).
  • Join in the round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round. 
  • Repeat instructions between asterisks (*) for the remainder of the round.

Instructions

Small Egg

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 11 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (11 stitches)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (22 stitches)

Rnd 3: do not chain, sl st in the next st, sc, hdc, dc, 2 tc, 2 tc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st, fasten off and weave in your ends.

Large Egg

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 11 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (11 stitches)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (22 stitches)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next st*, join (33 stitches)

Rnd 4: do not chain, sl st in the next st, sc, hdc, dc, 2 tc, tc, 2 tc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st, fasten off and weave in your ends.
