How many Granny Hexagons do you need?
This cozy crochet stocking pattern is more simple than it looks! All you need to do is crochet 17 hexagon shaped granny squares—a mix of granny hexagon and granny square styles. Once you have your squares, you’ll sew them together to form the stocking.

Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern Information

Advanced beginner. The free crochet pattern includes basic crochet stitches, involved stitch patterns, color work, and/or shaping.
Crochet Project Materials Needed
- Crochet Hook Size: I-9 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn weight: Worsted weight yarn #4. I used Lion Brand Yarn Wool Ease in the solid color Wheat. My stocking weighs 4.4 oz/123 grams.
- Yarn needle/tapestry needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): Optional. Use these to help keep track of your stitches.

Finished Size
The crochet stocking pattern measures 16 inches long and 5.5 inches wide.
Gauge
Gauge is not important for this pattern.
Crochet Terms
- sc = single crochet stitches
- dc = double crochet stitches
- ps = puff stitch
- bo = bobble stitch
- FPdc = front post double crochet
- BPdc = back post double crochet
- blo = back loop only
- ch/chs = chain stitch/chains
- ch-sp = chain space
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- rnd/rnds = round/rounds
Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern Notes
- Join each round with slip stitches to the top of the first stitch made in that round.
- The bobble stitches will pop out on the “wrong side”. Just pop them to the “right side”.
- The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
- The pattern is written in US terms.

- YO, insert hook in next stitch & pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
- YO, insert hook in same stitch and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook)
- YO, insert hook in same stitch and pull up a loop (7 loops on hook)
- YO and pull through all 7 loops.
Bobble stitch (bo):
- YO, insert hook in next stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)
- YO, insert hook in same stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)
- YO, insert hook in same stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook)

Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern Instructions
See special stitches. Make 17.
Round 1: Magic circle, make 12 dc, join (12 stitches)
Round 2: Ch 2, (ps, ch 1) around, join (12 stitches and 12 ch-spaces)
Round 3: Ch 2, [bo, sc in next ch-1 sp] around, join (24 stitches)
Round 4: Ch 2, [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 3 sts] around, join (42 stitches)
Joining the Hexagon Granny Squares
Lay the hexagons out as shown in the picture and single crochet the edges together, leaving the two seams marked with black lines open.
Assembling the Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern
The colored edges on the hexagons are your guide for assembling the stocking. Simply match the colored edges — for example, a blue edge on one hexagon should be stitched to a blue edge on the next hexagon. Use a single crochet stitch to join each seam.
Adding the Stocking Loop
To add the hanging loop, single crochet into the three middle stitches for 15 rows. Fasten off, then sew the end of the loop to the cuff.
Finishing the Christmas Stocking Crochet Pattern
