Round 1: Magic circle, make 12 dc, join (12 stitches)
Round 2: Ch 2, *(ps, ch 1); repeat from * around. Join. (12 ps and 12 ch-1 spaces)
Round 3: Ch 2, *bo in next ps, sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around. Join. (24 stitches)
Round 4: Ch 2, *work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st, dc in each of the next 3 sts; repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. (42 dc and 6 ch-2 spaces)

Joining and assembling the stocking

Arrange the 17 granny hexagons as shown in the diagram. From top to bottom, the hexagons are arranged in staggered rows of 3, 3, 4, 4, 2, and 1.

First, use single crochet to join the edges of the hexagons that touch each other in the flat layout.

Next, use the colored lines around the outside edges as a guide for shaping the stocking. Bring matching colored edges together and single crochet them together. For example, join the blue edge to the other blue edge, the red edge to the other red edge, and continue matching each color in the same way.

Leave the two edges marked with black lines open.

Continue joining the matching edges until the stocking is fully assembled.

Adding the hanging loop

At the top edge of the stocking, join yarn to 3 adjacent stitches where you want the hanging loop.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each of the 3 sts. Turn. (3 stitches)
