Free Crochet Mushroom Hat Pattern

Magic Circle Alternative

If you find the magic circle tricky, try this easier method for round 1.

Chain 4, make 11 dc in the 4th ch from the hook, join (11 stitches)

  • I-9 5.5 mm crochet hook
  • Rounds 1-5 are the same for all sizes.
  • Begin with red yarn.
  • The first round in white is worked in the back loops only (blo).

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 11 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (11 stitches)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (22 stitches)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next st*, join (33 stitches)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 2 sts*, join (44 stitches)

Rnd 5: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 10 sts*, join (48 stitches)

Baby Crochet Mushroom Hat Pattern

Rnds 6-8: Ch 2, dc in each st, join (48 stitches)

Switch to white yarn.

Rnd 9: Ch 2, dc blo in each st, join (48 stitches)

Rnds 10-14: Ch 2, dc in each st, join (48 stitches)

Face Parts for the Crochet Mushroom Hat Pattern

The patterns are the same for all sizes unless stated otherwise.

Eyes Pattern

  • H-8 5 mm crochet hook
  • black yarn
  • 2 scraps of white yarn
  • make 2

Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 2, 9 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (9 stitches)

Use scrap pieces of white yarn to add the eye sparkle.

Sew the eyes to the hat.

Nose Pattern

  • H-8 5 mm crochet hook
  • tan yarn

Rnd 1: Ch 5, 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, 4 hdc in last ch, you will finish the round by working in the backside of the chs, hdc in next ch, 2 hdc in last ch, join (10 stitches)

Fasten off and sew the nose onto the face. Make sure the nose is centered.

Spots Pattern

  • H-8 5 mm crochet hook
  • white yarn
  • make 2 of each size

Small spot:

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 9 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (9 stitches)

Large spot:

Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 9 dc, join with sl st to the top of the first dc (9 stitches)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (18 stitches)

Sew the spots onto the hat.

Smile Instructions

Use a piece of black yarn to sew a smile on the face.
