Spooky Crochet Spider Pattern + Video Tutorial
We all know how real spiders can be a bit creepy, but a cuddly spider? That’s just adorable! This Halloween crochet project gives you a friendly crochet spider that’s perfect for adding a spooky touch to your decorations. It’s cute, small, and fun to make. This is a Beginner Pattern
This is a great beginner pattern that uses simple stitches to create a cute crochet toy. I’ve also included a step by step video tutorial to guide you through every part of the process. Even if you’re new to spider patterns, this free crochet pattern makes it easy to follow along and create your own little spider.
Free Crochet Spider Pattern Information
For a fun and spooky project, wrap some fluffy yarn around a wreath to create a spider web look, then add your hanging spider for a cool front door decoration. You can also use the small spider as a nice decoration for your home, or make multiple for a playful, jumping spider display. The possibilities are endless!
Skill Level
Advanced beginners. You’ll need basic crochet skills to make this amigurumi spider. The pattern involves some shaping.
Crochet Project Materials Needed
- Hook size: H-8 mm crochet hook
- Yarn: worsted weight yarn
- Yarn needle/tapestry needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Fiber fill: Use this to stuff the spider.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): Optional. Use these to help keep track of your stitches.
Crochet Terms
- sc = single crochet stitches
- dc = double crochet stitches
- dc2tog = double crochet 2 together
- ch/chs = chain/chains
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
- blo = back loop only
- flo = front loops only
Pattern Notes
- The pattern is written in US terms.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- The chain at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
- The stitch count (number of stitches) is listed at the end of each round.

Magic Circle Alternative
If you find the magic circle (magic ring) tricky, try this easier method for round 1 of the eyes: Chain 3, make 6 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, join (6 stitches)
Crochet Spider Pattern Instructions
Spider Eyes Pattern
Start with black yarn.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 6 hdc, join (6 stitches)
Switch to white yarn.
Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in each st, join (12 stitches)
Rnd 3: ch 2,*2 hdc, hdc in next st*, join (18 stitches)
Spider Body Pattern
Use black yarn.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 10 dc, join (10 stitches)
Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join (20 stitches)
Rnd 3: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next st*, join (30 stitches)
Rnd 4: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 2 sts*, join (40 stitches)
Rnd 5: ch 2, *2 dc, dc in next 3 sts*, join (50 stitches)
Rnd 6: ch 2, dc in each st, join (50 stitches)
Rnd 7: ch 2, dc in each st, join (50 stitches)
Stop to sew eyes onto front of spider body.
Rnd 8: ch 2, *dc2tog, dc in next 3 sts*, join (40 stitches)
Rnd 9: ch 2, *dc2tog, dc in next 2 sts*, join (30 stitches)
Rnd 10: ch 2, *dc2tog, dc in next st*, join (20 stitches)
Rnd 11: ch 2, *dc2tog*, join and finish off leaving a long tail to sew shut. (10 stitches)
Fill the spider with fiber fill and then sew it closed.
Spider Legs Pattern
Make 8
Use black yarn.
Rnd 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 6 hdc, join (6 stitches)
Rnds 2- 12: ch 2, hdc in each st, join (6 stitches)
If you want to make longer legs, just repeat round 12.
Sew each leg shut and then sew 4 legs to each side of the spider body.
Finishing the Crochet Spider Pattern
Fasten off and then weave in the ends.
