Fasten off and sew closed using a yarn needle.
Shape the pumpkin
Cut a very long piece of black yarn and tie it securely around the middle of the pumpkin. Wrap the yarn snugly around the outside three times, spacing the wraps evenly so the pumpkin is divided into six equal sections. Pull gently to shape, then knot the yarn tightly to hold everything in place.
Tip: For a neater look, you can also thread the yarn through the center from top to bottom instead of wrapping it outside.

Add the stem
Use black yarn.
Round 1: Magic circle, ch 2, 10 dc. Join. (10 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st. Join. (20 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2, dc2tog blo around. Join. (10 sts)
Rounds 4-7: Ch 2, dc in each st. Join. (10 sts)
Sew the stem to the top of the pumpkin.

Add the vines
Make 2 using black yarn.
Ch 14, 2 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, 3 dc in next ch, *2 dc in next ch, 3 dc in next ch, repeat from * across the ch. Fasten off and sew the vines to each side of the stem.

Frequently asked questions
Can I make this pumpkin bigger or smaller?
Yes! Use a thicker yarn and larger hook for a bigger pumpkin, or lighter yarn and a smaller hook for a mini version.
What kind of stuffing should I use?
Polyester fiberfill works best because it keeps the pumpkin light, soft, and evenly shaped.
Do I have to use candy corn colors?
Not at all. You can stick with traditional orange, try neutral fall tones, or even make a whole rainbow patch of pumpkins.
How long does this project take?
Most crocheters can finish one in a few evenings. It’s a great weekend project.
Can I sell items I make from this pattern?
Absolutely! You’re welcome to sell finished pumpkins made from this design. Please credit “Lovable Loops” as the designer.
